While Jonathan is still in Dracula's castle in Transylvania, he opens the lid of a coffin to reveal Dracula sleeping.

As the story transitions from Jonathan in Transylvania to the rest of the characters in england, there are maps which shows the area the story is moving to (London and the Yorkshire coast). Then there are letters exchanged between Jonathan's fiance, Mina, and her friend Lucy. Their letters introduce the rest of the main characters as Lucy's suitors, although she reveals to mina that she's already chosen which one she will marry.

One of the suitors, John (Jack) seward is a doctor at a psychiatric facility and these pages follow his journal, which he records via gramophone, where he talks about one of his patients, Renfield, who has been eating birds, spiders, and flies.

Mina's journal (With the purple border) reveals that a strange eastern european ship has been spotted on the yorkshire coast and then she includes a newspaper article which discusses more details of the ship and its disturbing landing on shore.

Mina talks more about the ship and includes a log kept by the captain, which was preserved by being kept in a bottle. The log reveals that some scary things were taking place on board.

Mina encounters Dracula in a graveyard after he has bitten Lucy.

Mina's journal continues and there are letters which reveal the coordinations between two soliciting companies which have been anonymously hired to move several large boxes of dirt. Enclosed in the envelopes are letters and other  objects that will aid in carrying out the job.

Mina and Lucy communicate more and Mina reveals that she is going to collect jonathan, who is very disturbed by his time in transylvania, from a nun who has been taking care of him. Mina promises Jonathan she will never read his journal from his time there, and she ties it up with a ribbon, hence the cutout which reveals Lucy's response below, using her consistently pink stationary.

Lucy has fallen ill and the other characters try different methods to heal her. Seward calls on his old professor and friend, Van Helsing, to come from germany to aid them as well.

Van Helsing performs multiple blood transfusions to help the gaunt, pale Lucy and also insists she wears a garland of garlic. A newspaper clipping reveals that a large dog has escaped from the zoo.

Fearful of sleeping alone, Lucy asks her mother to stay with her and unfortunately, the missing dog from the newspaper clipping is found.

THe sample book ends with a Memorandum written by lucy which explains what transgressed on this night.
